Raise the Ruins - An Evening of Contra Dancing

We are excited to host another fun-filled evening of contra dancing at the Tea Barn in Fair Hill. If you've never experienced contra dance, you're in for a treat. Be sure to see our FAQ down below.

Contra dance is very beginner-friendly. With the lively music of  "Strings on Wings"  fiddle duo
Barb Schmidt and Todd Clewell, and professional caller Terry Bachman leading us through the dances, you'll be do-si-doing in no time!

A generous hors d'oeuvres buffet and complimentary drink ticket are included. Come hungry. A cash bar will also be available, featuring Old Stone Cider on tap, along with our own signature mixed drinks, wine, beer and soda.

You will love our silent auction items and door prizes! All proceeds go toward restoration of the historic Bee Hive buildings, so bring your best bids and snag some fabulous items from local artisans and businesses.

Frequently asked...

Click the FAQ to find out more!
What is contra?
Similar to square dance and line dancing, contra has roots in European and Appalachian social dances. Unlike line dancing, however, there's no fancy footwork to remember. A caller leads us through the dances, beginning with very simple instructions. The only prerequisite is knowing your left from your right.
Do I need to bring a partner?
Nope! You'll find plenty of friendly people to dance with and we'll change partners often anyway. We would love it if you brought your friends though!
How should I dress?
Clothes you can move in. Layers are great. The Tea Barn is not conventionally heated, so you may want some warmth if sitting a dance out. And you might work up a sweat when you join back in. Shoes with soft and smooth soles make sliding across the wooden floor easier. Dress for comfort and get ready to promenade and do-si-do!
